Why WASH matters
Safe water, sanitation and hygiene reduce disease, keep children in school, and free time for productive work. WASH is a cross-cutting enabler for health, education and livelihoods.
Partner with EYEOur Approach
EYE’s WASH interventions are designed to deliver immediate life-saving services while building local capacity to sustain those services. We combine infrastructure, behavior change and governance to create environments where children are healthy, girls can manage menstrual hygiene with dignity, and communities manage water systems responsibly.
Strategic Focus Areas
Key Activities (Detailed)
Engineering and community-led maintenance plans ensure reliable water supply for households, schools and clinics. Each project includes user training, spare-parts stores, and a simple financial model for sustainment.
We build separate latrines and handwashing points, supply menstrual hygiene materials, and train teachers and WASH clubs to champion daily hygiene practices that keep children safe and in class.
Through door-to-door mobilization, community dialogues, radio spots, and school campaigns, we promote handwashing, safe water storage and household sanitation—turning knowledge into lasting practice.
We form and train Water User Committees, teach simple bookkeeping and maintenance skills, and link communities with local suppliers to reduce facility downtime and strengthen ownership.
Distribution of dignity kits combined with MHM education ensures girls stay in school and manage periods with safety and confidence.
Rapid deployment of water, sanitation and hygiene supplies during emergencies—reducing disease outbreak risk and protecting the most vulnerable.
Impact
By combining infrastructure with community governance and behavior change, EYE has reduced waterborne illness, improved school attendance, and restored dignity for thousands. Our school WASH programs increase girls’ attendance; our trained committees keep systems functional; our emergency WASH saves lives.
Example outcomes: Reduced diarrheal disease incidence, 200+ functional school WASH clubs, and longer service life for rehabilitated water points.
